Volunteer Information
Volunteers Are Valuable! We're always looking for mature and enthusiastic volunteers before and during the Festival. It's not only an excellent way to meet new people, but you're also helping one of Thunder Bay's favorite events. These are some of the areas where assistance is always appreciated! - Site setup (fences, tables, stages etc.)
- Site take down
- Site cleanup (during the event)
- Boat security
- Merchandise sales
- Children's activities
- Race officials
In addition, the Lakehead Canoe Club is also looking for volunteers for race day! Volunteer positions and descriptions are below: Position | Description | | Referee | Maintain control of the race. Assessing infractions and penalties. Ensuring safety of all participants. Training and certification required - provided by the Club. | | Assistant Referee | Assist referee in duties. Training provided. | | Starter | Control start of race. Training required. | | Assistant Starter | Assist starter in duties. Training provided. | | Whipper In | Check in teams for each race. | | Chief Marshall | Call teams for races. Confirms teams available to race. | | Land Marshalls | Assist teams to line up and send to docks. | | Dock Marshalls | Supervise loading and unloading of boats. | | Timers | Responsible for timing race. Training required. | | Exit & Entrance Gates | Maintains control of entrance and exit to marshalling area. | | Runners | Delivers race results to race recorder and announcer. | | Steers | Steer boats. Training and certification required. Must be available to assist during practices 2 weeks prior to race and on race day. | | Drummers | Sit at the front of boat; provide drumming and other encouragement to teams. Loud voice an asset. Training required. |
